I am an illustrator based in the U.K. In my practice I create digital illustrations taking inspiration from folklore and the natural world. I wish to reflect the dark and romantic beauty infused in old stories which are rooted in tradition and word of mouth story telling. Contextually, my work sits within the realm of fantasy, blending elements of surrealism and magical realism, using dream like imagery to combine the natural world with the human world to open an element of mystery up to who ever views it. Tonally, my work is dark, I want people to see that although the imagery is darker and sometimes other worldly, they can relate and see a reflection of ourselves within it. I continue to create because I want to paint microcosmic reflections of the human condition through a lens of fantastical tales and poetical influences. To do this, I use mixed media, combining elements of traditional drawing such as charcoal, ink and watercolour or acrylic, and three- dimensional aspects such as found natural materials and plasticine clay with digital finishing touches with colour to create a distinct atmosphere.
